Imagine an eBook that you share with your class, and that whenever you and other students or instructor are reading at the same time – you could choose to chat or talk VOiP (and use a whiteboard). The eBook would allow you to highlight material you found relevant, and you could leave sticky notes with your comments (text or voice comments!). Other students could see the comments, and even choose to reply back to them (eg, answering a question you posted on the page). You always have the option to keep things simple – and see only your highlights on the page – or you could see everyone’s highlights. Students who are auditory learners could have the page read to them (an mp3 file, with the visuals described audiorily). Additionally, each page of the eBook includes relevant resources – video tutorials (eg, related YouTube videos), interactive demonstrations (eg, flash, java applications), pop-up answers in response to questions, and a ‘Test Your Understanding’ flash quiz, that gives you feedback on whether each question was answered correctly – plus the instructor can go through and see how each student did on the quiz (though no easy way to transfer seamlessly to a gradebook).
